“Being an emerging artist at NCECA last year was an incredible experience. I allowed me to meet a strong supportive group of other artists who I now follow, and can share strategies for success with. I was given the opportunity to share my work with the whole conference through the final artist talks, and have that experience of speaking to an audience of my peers, mentors and students, which for me was the most positive part of the whole week.”
“Through the re-imagining of ancient crafts with an urban-feminist-folk perspective, Lindsay’s work weaves dark narratives that highlight tensions and injustice through the vernacular of subculture and resistance.” Lindsay Montgomery works across a variety of media including ceramics and puppetry to create narrative performances and objects. Her work is focused on creating mythologies examining death and mysticism, family dynamics, and evolving modes of power. Lindsay has exhibited across North American and has received a commission from the Gardiner Museum and grants from the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts as well as Crafts Ontario. She earned a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and an MFA from the University of Minnesota.
The 2020 Emerging Artist exhibition and presentations will be at the next NCECA Conference in Richmond Virginia, March 25 – 28, 2020
