Last night, your NCECA Board attended a lively reception in the lovely Porcelain Room of the Rhode Island School of Design. We were treated to a delightful evening of conversation with the “Rhody” people who will be working hard to make the 2015 conference a special experience for everyone. Each board member came away from that “launch party” with a positive and enthusiastic feeling. We all noticed the close-knit community that exists here in and around Providence, from the Convention and Visitors Bureau staff to the nearby colleges and arts centers, to even the Mayor’s office and each of us felt like we’d made significant connections and built relationships which will serve us well as the conference planning begins to heat up. One of the highlights of the evening was the opportunity to meet Harriet Brisson, who was one of the early driving forces within our organization. In fact, twenty-something years ago, she took a sabbatical to write the NCECA 25th anniversary history. (You can read that document here) Throughout the evening, there were many gushing moments with much hugging and even some kisses. The warmth of those interactions stayed with us through the crisp evening. We are all already getting excited about Providence in 2015!
