Associate Professor and Head of Visual Arts at North Dakota State University, Strand’s artistic practice investigates the potential of craft as a catalyst for social change. This online interactive lecture will explore ways that artists can advance the potential of objects in the 21st century to effect senses of community cohesion. 2016 NCECA INVITATIONAL
The call for submissions to Unconventional Clay: Engaged in Change, the2016 NCECA Invitational is now open! The exhibition will take place at TheNelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri fromFebruary 12 – May 8, 2016 in conjunction with Makers, Mentors and Milestones, the 50th Annual NCECA Conference. Co-curators Catherine Futter and Leigh Taylor Mickelson are especially interested in discovering more about dynamic and engaging works that respond to contemporary community oriented working models, projects that address audience interactivity, and employ innovative approaches to the medium of ceramics.

2015 EXHIBITION GUIDE AND ROUTES

2015 NCECA BIENNIAL/NSJE CATALOG

A full color catalog documenting works included in the 2015 NCECA Biennial and National Student Juried Exhibition is now available for purchase. Pre-order your own via NCECA’s Online Store. The Biennial includes fifty works issuing from 22 states and Canada, Hong Kong, Italy, Romania, South Korea and Sweden, from functional pottery to installations with associated video or computer programs. The National Student Juried Exhibition includes works by 37 undergraduates, post-baccalaureates and graduate students from schools throughout the United States.

The 23rd Annual NCECA Cup Sale and Exhibition takes place in the Rotunda of the Rhode Island Convention Center during the upcoming conference. Those coming to Providence may deliver cup donations from 9:00 AM- 5:00 PM, Wednesday-Thursday, March 25-26. Pieces may not exceed 9-inches in any dimension. All donated cups will be considered for the NCECA “Cups of Merit” commission award. In its fourteenth year, the award adds further recognition of the extraordinary quality of these donations. The selections will be made by a jury’s review of all donated cups, and winners will be announced at the closing ceremonies of the conference on Saturday. Proceeds from NCECA’s Cup Sale and Exhibition contribute to the Fund for Artistic Development that support scholarships, fellowships and special initiatives to advance ceramic art and learning.

2016 EXHIBITIONS LISTING IMPORTANT NOTICE
NCECA has adopted a new system for exhibition listings to begin with the 2016 conference in Kansas City, Missouri. Concurrent Exhibitions (CEs) and Venue Generated Exhibitions are promoted by NCECA in regions surrounding its conferences. NCECA’s On-Site Conference Liaisons and committees that they organize will review all proposals that must be submitted online for listing approval. The call for Concurrent Exhibitions for the 2016 conference expired in December 2014. Proposals for Venue Generated Exhibitions may be submitted at http://nceca.net/nceca-calls-and-exhibitions/venue-originated-exhibition-proposals/ by June 1, 2015. NCECA reserves the right to only promote exhibitions received through these systems.
