aerial_ocac_newsliderI love that I work in a small supportive community of creative and interesting people on a bucolic wooded campus that feels like adult art camp!

Rural Southeastern Ohio

What was your childhood nickname?

I actually did not have one…

How did you first find out about NCECA?

In undergrad at Ohio University

Tell me a story about your first conference (including city and/or year)

2004 NCECA journalNCECA Indianapolis, 2004 – I remember being overwhelmed by the tons of amazing work I saw then feeling inspired and motivated to get into the studio and contribute what I could to this robust and active field.

What or who inspired you to get involved more deeply in the organization, and what was your “entry point” to the board

I was inspired to get involved in the board due to all that NCECA had done for me over the years – a place to network and connect with fellow makers and educators, emerging artist award, being invited to CAA to lecture on behalf of NCECA, etc. My entry point was being asked to be the On-Site Liaison for NCECA 2017 in Portland, OR.

What’s your favourite thing about being on the board?

Having the chance to work with some of the most dedicated and intelligent people in my field.

What’s your favorite part of your specific position?

Having the opportunity to work with my new community of makers and arts professionals in Portland.

Who are some of your mentors, and how have they shaped you as a person/artist? (both in and out of the organization/field)

Brad Schwieger, Paul Sacaridiz, Nicolas Kripal, Yoshi Ikeda, and Glen Brown – All of these people believed in me and supported me at various parts of my education and career. They gave me the confidence to set high goals and provided me with invaluable advice and guidence.

Tell me about your work as an artist.

Keep it simple – vanilla
