On Saturday Morning, following Jack Troy’s closing lecture, the member’s meeting reconvened. Programs Director, Steve Hilton, presented several recognitions and awards, including awards for the National Student Juried Exhibition, graduate and undergraduate fellowships and our cups of merit awards. Additionally, we took a moment to say goodbye to several NCECA board members, including our Providence Onsites, Jay Lacouture and Larry Bush, one of our Directors-at-Large, Garth Johnson, and our Programs Director, Steve Hilton. I’d like to take a moment to say a few words about Steve. He has served the board and the NCECA organization in this capacity for 6 years. Prior to that, he served as a student director at large, and volunteered for the organization in numerous other ways. He is one of the most amazingly hardworking people I know, yet simultaneously one of the most humble. He quietly inspires others around him with his calm manner, and encourages young board members to speak up and express their ideas. With Steve in the room, you always felt like you had a friend. He was the first to reach out to me when I was first elected to the board 5 years ago. I can’t even begin to describe the complexity of the job Steve does, nor can I explain how he did it so effortlessly. Steve’s work the last 6 years has forever made an imprint on NCECA, and we are a better organization for his influence. Thank you Steve, for your service.
