MATERIAL AND INVESTIGATION: 2013 NCECA EMERGING ARTISTS

Executive Director Joshua Green will chair the presentation that will feature talks by and discussion with two of NCECA’s 2013 Emerging Artists. Amber Ginsburg will present The Archive and the Repertoire, joined by Linda Swanson presenting In a Material World: The Experiential Nature of Ceramics.  Attendance at this CAA affiliate session is free and open to the public. If you are in the Chicago area, we hope to see you!

Sharing interdisciplinary approaches to the ceramic medium and process explored through their work, the artists will discuss their practice as creative research as well as its relationship to teaching, collaboration and community engagement. Ginsburg and Swanson employ diverse modalities of investigation in their creative practices. Following their presentations the artists will discuss changes they see and have experienced in the academic environment for the arts; the effect of these shifts on material-based study and inquiry; how collaborative, time-based and or environmental aspects of the artists’ work have affected their ideas about its reception and relation to audience. Additional questions from the audience will be welcomed.
