If you arrive early for the conference, you might want to take a trip to see The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory. It’s about 3 miles from the Convention Center and Conference Hotels, less than 10 minutes by car,or about 25 by public transit. (Directions here)
Each of the three beehive-shaped (not geodesic) glass domes measure 140 feet in diameter at the base and 85 feet high, offering 15,000 square feet of growing space for plant display. Each dome has a distinct climate and exhibits plants in a naturalistic setting. These are the Desert, Tropical, and Floral Show domes. (Please note: The Tropical Dome may still be closed for maintenance at the time of our conference)
The domes are open Mon through Fri.: 9 a.m.–5 p.m. and Sat. & Sun.: 9 a.m.–4 p.m. They also have music under the dome and a special light show on Thursday evenings. You can find admission rates and more information here.
