“Having been traveling internationally for several years before I became president of NCECA, I was realizing how important it is to have Americans leave our shores and our comfort zones to engage with other cultures. We are not only sending residents out for international experiences, we are sending ambassadors out to represent the US. It is the best of relationships. The artists benefit from the new stimuli for their creative work and exposure to a new culture, and the people in the country of the residency benefit from getting to know American artists one-on-one, potentially changing attitudes on both sides. I have always thought that peace will happen one person at a time.” -Elaine Henry, NCECA President 2005

The purpose of NCECA is to promote and improve the ceramic arts through education, research and creative practice. NCECA supports its members is by providing opportunities to engage in international programs. Intercultural exchange of ideas and methods is critical to evolution of individual artists who through their immersion and experimentation, absorb and sometimes transform influences of other artists and their cultures. Global interface will continue to play an important role in NCECA’s efforts to sustain and advance a vibrant ceramic art and education community.
