NCECA is pleased to introduce you to this year’s six Emerging Artists! Zimra Beiner, Renee Brown, Mel Griffin, Lauren Mabry, David Peters and Adam Shiverdecker have been selected amongst almost 90 applicants for our 2014 Emerging Artists Program. This year’s selection committee included Josh DeWeese, Jeanne Quinn and Sam Chung. There was stiff competition in narrowing this group down to only six artists, but the selection committee has picked an exciting and diverse group of early-career artists that span a broad range of creative expression in ceramics.
This marks the third year of a three-year grant from the Windgate Charitable Foundation that has generously supported our Emerging Artists Program. Through this grant, NCECA has been able to provide our selected artists with a greater level of support including a financial award, promotion through print and media, and an opportunity to interact with collectors. Milwaukee conference attendees will also have the opportunity to view the artists’ work in person at the Emerging Artists Exhibition, which will be located near the EXPO galleries in the convention center. The artists will also be participating in an NCECA Connections presentation in which members will have an opportunity to listen to these artists discuss the progression of their careers in a more intimate setting. Finally, we hope to see you all at the grand finale for these artists, Saturday morning’s formal presentations where each of these talented artists will discuss the development of their work and the ideas that drive their creativity. This is an event you don’t want to miss!
